Built From Experience
Driven by Purpose
My connection with Land Rovers began on a farm near Lydenburg. As a young boy, I rode in a farmer’s Land Rover as it climbed what seemed to me the biggest mountain in the world. I never forgot how naturally that vehicle handled the terrain .
Years later, hiking with the Scouts, we stepped off a narrow track to let a Land Rover pass. It could go where we were walking—and that stayed with me.
During my military service, I drove Land Rovers modified for their work in difficult terrain. When something broke, we had to find the problem, fix it and keep moving. I learned that a capable vehicle needs more than power. It must be dependable, practical and repairable when you are far from help.
I’ve travelled widely through Africa, from Sudan to the Cape. I’ve seen the toll that heat, dust, rough ground and distance take. I once watched a man climb into a Land Rover that looked burnt out and rusted beyond repair, start it and drive away. I’ve never forgotten that.
Those experiences shaped how I think. I’ve always looked at things and asked, “Can we make this better?” That question is behind Ironveld Coachworks.
South Africa has a proud tradition of building vehicles for demanding conditions, and locally assembled Land Rovers are part of that story. At Ironveld, we want to honour that heritage. We keep the character of the classic Land Rover and improve it with care, purpose and practical experience.
Every change must have a reason. Every vehicle must be built to be driven, trusted and enjoyed.
Ironveld is a new name, but the thinking behind it has been with me for a lifetime.
Can we make it better? We believe we can.
Built to Endure.
